Friendly, helpful staff. Clean, modern rooms. Very comfortable beds that we were informed were recently replaced. Free WiFi. Great view all around from here. Plenty of wildlife (fish, ducks, black bears, rabbits, bald eagles) within a few minutes walk, yet the hotel is a quiet place. My family and I came down for a weekend road trip from the interior. I have never stayed at the Totem before, but the experience has been pretty nice. The room was a very nice suite (recent update?), which unbenknownst to us had a kitchen! For a small town like Valdez, it is great...I have stayed some places here which left far more to be desired. The prices here during tourist season are nuts, but that's not unique to the Totem. Apparently, the Kitchen at the restaurant had a fire; too bad because the breakfast there used to be great! My biggest gripe is the proximity to the "night club"...the late night crowd makes this hotel a little less family friendly. Overall, my first stay at the Totem exceeded my expectations. Very comfortable, quiet respite. Wonderful friendly, helpful staff! The best in Valdez. Service was excellent and drinks were superb. They even had a giant jenga set. It was a blast. No longer open. Burned down Will be rebuilding for 2018. Was a great restaurant.
