Excellent viewing of salmon from viewing decks. During high tide, the sea lions feasting on the salmon is a truly memorable sight; including the gulls keeping in close proximity to the sea lions and feeding off the leftovers. The feeding activity ceases almost completely during low tide with the tidal waters receeding substantially from the weir. Suggest research tide times before visiting the hatchery. No bears were to be seen at the hatchery during the current visit. Single moose spotted on route to the hatchery at around 18h00. We got there at the running of the "pinks". They had reached the quota of fish allowed on upstream, and had blocked the river access. So salmon that jumped up the ladder just had to go back down. It was interesting to watch. Though there are often bear in the area, we didn't see any. And, friends who were there earlier in the day saw seals, but we didn't. 5 star for sure. This place is amazing. You can watch over the salmon is such close distance. All four of us liked this place so much that we visit the Hatchery four times within three days. We did not see bears but there are salmon group, sea otter and even four sea lions in distance. Especially if your visit is in the early morning, the fog makes harbor so pretty that you can make a post card with it. Interesting place to visit when the salmon are running. There is a lot to learn and see here. They have added signs to read. Great place for strollers
